Some users believe that it is important to shake the inhaler prior to inhaling in order to free the pink salt crystals that have conglomerated in the pot. This will increase the surface area of the salt as the air passes over as you inhale through the mouthpiece. This is a reasonable practice; however, note that tinier salt particles may become lodged in the filter. This can lead to disrupted air flow from a blockage.
In the event that this occurs, simply empty the salt chamber. Next, use running water to thoroughly wash out the pot. Breathe through the mouthpiece and test the inhaler out. If you are able to breathe with ease the filter has been successfully cleaned. Lastly, dry the pot entirely and replenish with fresh Himalayan salt crystals.
